Child to Teacher Ratio (10 children for 1 teacher)
Group Size: Maximum 20 children

Welcome to our Junior & Senior Kindergarten Program!

Our JK/SK program offers a safe and educational environment in which the children may flourish. At Cook's we offer a program that promotes the overall physical, emotional, social and cognitive development of all of the children in our care on non-school days (half or full days); before and/or after school; and during school holidays (PA Days, March Break, Christmas, Summer).

From our Cook's location on D'Arcy Street, we escort children to and from C.R. Gummow Public School, Grant Sine Public School and St. Joseph's Separate School.

Highlights of Our JK/SK Program

  • We offer a similar curriculum to that which is offered within the elementary schools.
  • At the beginning of the school year, we use the Jolly Phonics Program to help the children learn to recognize the letters and sounds of the alphabet.
  • We create a word wall to encourage the children to begin to read some two and three letter words.
  • Everyday we update our daily calendar to help the children learn the days of the week and the months of the year.
  • Our families are provided a monthly calendar to keep the parents and children informed about our themes and upcoming activities.
  • On our monthly calendar we indicate which child will be our leader for the day.
  • When a child sees his/her name on a specific day the child knows it is his/her day to bring a show and tell item and be the helper of the day.
  • Along with all of the educational activities that we offer, we have a wide variety of creative supplies and activities to encourage the children to explore their own creativity while developing their fine motor and coordination skills.

Goals in the JK/SK Program

Our goals in the JK/SK room are to help the children to:

  • Recognize and print their names.
  • Recognize and print letters of the alphabet.
  • Get dressed and undressed independently (shoes, coats, etc.)
  • Recognize and print numbers from 1 to 10.
  • Recognize and print some two and three-letter words.
  • Work together in both small and large groups.
